NBA trade rumors: Hornets’ Marvin Williams is ‘definitely’ available

Marvin Williams could be in a new uniform soon.

The Hornets have “definitely made” the 33-year-old forward available in trade talks, according to a report from the Charlotte Observer.

Williams could be an attractive piece in a deal because of his expiring contract and ability to stretch the floor. He is set to make about $15 million next season after opting into the final year of his deal in June and has knocked down 36.2% of his career 3-point attempts.

“I kind of want to play as long as I can possibly do it,” Williams told reporters at his exit interview in April. “I’m always going to work as hard as I can to keep myself healthy and we’ll see where it goes from there. I’m looking forward to next year being (year) 15.”

The Hornets finished last season with a 39-43 record and just missed the playoffs. But, they’re expected to take a major step back in 2019-20 after losing star guard Kemba Walker to the Celtics.

Walker was an All-Star in each of the last three seasons with Charlotte and was named to the All-NBA third team in 2018-19.

“I just want to address the entire Hornets organization, top to bottom,” Walker wrote in an article for the Players’ Tribune. “I regret that we weren’t able to get to that next level and do a little more than we did. But even if we fell short of some of our goals — that doesn’t change how proud I am of what we built here together. This place is special.”

The Hornets added guard Terry Rozier in a sign-and-trade with Boston.
